Leadership Update

Welcoming our New CEO, Shai Habet

Dear Community and Friends,

After a thoughtful search, we are proud to announce the appointment of Shai Habet as Chief Executive Officer of Youth HEAR.

Shai joins us at a defining moment in our journey. As Youth HEAR continues to grow its reach, deepen its impact and respond to the urgent challenges facing our communities, we knew we needed a leader with both strategic vision and a deep commitment to our mission. In Shai, we have found exactly that.

Shai deeply aligns with Youth HEAR’s core principle: empowering young people to lead change. He joins our organisation with a strong commitment to strengthening the voices, leadership, and courage of the next generation.

Shai brings an exceptional track record of leadership, combining policy expertise, innovation and community impact. He has built evidence-based programs, led award-winning inclusion initiatives and developed systems that turn ambitious social goals into measurable outcomes.

In Shai's words:

"I'm excited to be joining Youth HEAR as CEO. I want to sincerely thank the Board for their trust and acknowledge Julia, whose leadership has shaped Youth HEAR into the organisation it is today, an achievement I look forward to building on.

The stories of Holocaust Survivors belong in the present, shaping how we navigate the world today and stand up against hate in all forms. When antisemitism rises, hate rarely stops there. Youth HEAR's work has never been more relevant or more needed. What excites me is that this organisation meets this moment not with words, but with action - delivered in classrooms and communities by an incredible volunteer network that makes this impact possible.

My focus will be on expanding our national reach, deepening our cross community partnerships, and being rigorous about how we measure the change we create. Together, I want every person who engages with Youth HEAR to walk away with the empathy to lead and the confidence to stand up, so that 'Never Again' is a promise we keep every single day."

A Note from Chairperson, Julia Sussman

“Making the decision to step down as CEO of Youth HEAR was not an easy one. Having founded and nurtured this organisation over many years, I felt a deep responsibility to our team, our community and our mission. I knew that whoever stepped into this role needed not only the capability to lead the organisation forward, but also a genuine care for the people and purpose at the heart of Youth HEAR.

When I read Shai’s application, I immediately recognised someone who deeply understood and believed in our mission. Throughout this transition, it has been a privilege to work alongside him and see firsthand the thoughtfulness, integrity and vision he brings to this role.

I feel honoured that Shai has chosen to take on this role and lead this remarkable organisation and community. I have no doubt that his innovation, care and dedication will see the organisation continue to grow, thrive and empower young people to lead meaningful change. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Shai in my role as Chair of the Board as we lead Youth HEAR into this next chapter together. Shai steps into this role not only with my blessing, but with my full trust and admiration.”

This appointment marks an exciting step forward for Youth HEAR. We are energised by what lies ahead and look forward to introducing Shai to our volunteers, partners, donors and broader community in the coming weeks.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Shai to Youth HEAR.

Welcome, Shai
